How to: Beetleglam Makeup

There are only three things you’ll never catch me saying 3 times in a mirror with the lights out.

Candyman. (I don’t care what anyone says. I ain’t doing it.)

Bloody Mary. (See above. Hmph.)

And Beetlejuice.

While the first two are the truth (don’t judge), Beetlejuice is one of the funniest, most iconic movies in the fantasy-comedy genre. The movie graced the screen for the first time in March of 1988.

If you haven’t seen Beetlejuice before I highly recommend you watch it before recreating Beetlejuice…or in this case Beetleglam…makeup.

The characters in the film were all memorable in their own right, but the movie’s namesake is the focus for this month’s makeup look.

Beetlejuice Makeup

Beetlejuice’s makeup was originally done by Ve Neill. Back on the movie’s 30th anniversary, Ve Neill gave an interview where she spilled the details on how Beetlejuice’s makeup came about.

It’s so interesting to learn about the process of creating looks that eventually become iconic. The creative side of me would like to add my own spin to the look by glamming it up Beetlejuice style.

Beetleglam?

If we could create Beetlejuice’s sister, what would she look like? Now add a little beauty to that thought and you’ve got Beetleglam!

Beetleglam is a beautified spin on the otherwise grotesqueness of Beetlejuice makeup. Think of adding things like lashes and a beauty mark.

Check out my Pinterest board for examples of Beetleglam makeup. You can see that many talented artists have taken this spin on Beetlejuice makeup, but a closer look shows that no two are the same.

Tutorials

I love this first tutorial. She includes tips on hairstyling that will really help the look if you don’t have a wig.

This next tutorial has a beautiful result. She uses liquid latex to add realism to the look.

This last tutorial is of the full rendition of Beetlejuice makeup without the glam. I think if we can appreciate the effect of the original, we can add our own glammed up twist to the look.
