Clever Clowns
The clown is one of the most widely known characters in the world. From their bright, beaming colors to their funny, often clumsy ways, Clowns bring smiles to the masses.
The professional Clown is sought after for many functions like corporate gatherings, airports for waiting passengers, and of course birthday parties.
What is a Clown?
There are different types of clowns with different appeals. There are clowns who bring joy and clowns who ignite fear. But the makeup for any type of clown follows a few main rules.
Clown Makeup Rules
- Follow your facial features when applying makeup. Accent your natural smile (or frown) lines.
- A clown will appear scarier the closer you make your eyebrows to your nose.
- Clown faces can be full white or have a flesh tone with white accents.
- When making a white face, set your greasepaint with white facial powder. Some people have used baby powder.
- Using white around the eyes gives more expression.
- Start with white so you don’t bleed into other colors.
- Patting the makeup on helps to smooth splotchy makeup and works the makeup into the skin.
- Keep the facial features inside the outside corners of your eyes.
- The purpose is to create a unique personality that connects with the audience.
- Goose Clown and Hobo Clown use a flesh colored paint where the white isn’t used.
- It’s best if you use no more than three colors including white.
- Use a wet q-tip or similar to trace out the outside lines to make the lines crisper.
- Do makeup top to bottom. Start with eyes and work your way down so you don’t touch your face.
- Keep the face symmetrical, then add accents.
- Dark eyes can make for a menacing clown.
- Dark lines under and around the eye pronounce them.
Clown makeup gives you a fantastic opportunity to be really creative.
