A mother nature makeup look is a fun way to bring art and nature into a makeup. It’s a popular look in the makeup community that usually gains steam at the start of Spring, but especially to recognize special days like Earth Day.
Let’s find out what’s included in a makeup look inspired by the Earth, and let’s figure out the elements that will make the perfect nature-themed makeup.
Using items from nature isn’t a new idea. Artists have used natural materials in creative makeup looks for decades including feathers, clay, and flowers.
With anything natural, however, you should use caution when choosing and applying materials. Using items that aren’t intended for makeup can be dangerous, so always check for allergies and other issues before using anything on your skin, and make sure you’re always being safe.
A Google search for an Earthy makeup look or a “natural” makeup look is likely to return results that are more like every day beauty looks.
While that may not be exactly our goal, a beauty element in our makeup will lend to the story we want to tell.
Even with the more sinister looks, when you look at the examples above, you’ll see a lot of beauty in the mix.
The story gives us room to play with the character’s emotion, and then incorporate those emotions into our makeup. Here’s what I mean.
Is your Mother Nature character upset by the way of the world? What elements can you add to your makeup to show sadness? How beautiful would Mother Nature’s sadness be?
Is your nature elf shy and reserved? Do they have a fear? How can that be incorporated into your makeup?
Here are some of my favorite makeup tutorials using elements of nature.
