Ice Makeup Tips and Tricks
Ice and frostbite makeup are really fun makeups to try, and for beginners, these looks can be pretty simple.
The payoff is great too because you can create something that really wows ’em with minimal effort.
This is one of those looks that can turn out super gorgeous if doing, say, an Ice Queen makeup, but it could get pretty gory if going for frostbite.
Whatever your angle, let’s dig into how to create your own ice makeup look.
What Does Ice Makeup Look Like?
Check out my Pinterest board with tons of examples of and inspiration for ice makeup looks. Take a look at the color variations. What color(s) do you think stand out or are necessary for this type of look?
Here’s what I see. Lots of blues, silvers, and whites make a nice icy makeup look, but then there’s also the fake snow.
Fake snow adds a layer of realism to the looks. In my opinion, I don’t think an icy makeup look would look as good if it didn’t have some type of snow or ice added to it.
Products Used in Ice Makeup Effects
You’d be surprised at what you can use for makeup around the house!
And ice makeup doesn’t disappoint. There’s plenty in your pantry or under your cabinet that would make a great makeup.
But there are also some pro products to consider.
Ice FX Pro Makeup Kit
This kit has everything you need in one box (but you can purchase the items separately too).
With this kit, you can create ice looks in different stages like slush, snow, or ice. Your imagination is the limit with this kit.
If you don’t want to shell out the big bucks for this ice fx kit, take a look at what you can do with what you may already have at home.
Epson Salt
This natural material can be bought just about anywhere soap products are sold.
It’s traditionally used to soothe sore muscles by emptying a cup or so in your bath where you’d soak for some time.
For the ice makeup effects, however, Epson Salt is used on the skin to look like small bits of ice.
Crushed even further it can look a lot like snow, perfect for adding to brows or facial hair for that real icy effect.
Fake Snow Flakes
To complete a true frostbite makeup look you gotta have fake snow. The one pictured above is just one of many examples.
It comes in a ton of varieties, and you could really find some good uses for each different kind of snow.
Some find that the sparkle effect given off of fake snow infused with glitter makes for a gorgeous ice queen makeup.
Fake snow with less sparkle may work better for a frostbite makeup, but it’s really a matter of what your goal is.
Real snow does have a sort of sparkle to it, so use your best judgment when creating your makeup.
Ice Queen Crown
What’s an Ice Queen makeup without a crown? The one pictured above is reasonably priced, but if you’re a DIY’er like me, check out this tutorial on making your own icy crown.
Ice Makeup Tutorials
I watched a ton of tutorials and found these to be really helpful. There are tons more, so I encourage you to look around. Gather a bunch of ideas to help you to create your own.
This first tutorial by Alex Faction is of an Ice King. If you’re an NME Box subscriber, my MFX subscription box, then you have many of the products included in this tutorial.
