Creating your own bunny makeup

Bunny face paint is a fun look that can be simple and use few products, but when you add fake fur, whiskers, and the illusion of a button nose, a rabbit makeup look can be clever and creative.

Let’s dig into ways to take our bunny makeup look to a new level with realistic looking additions like fake fur and learn the technique of painting realistic fur.

Making a Rabbit

Our goal is to create a bunny makeup that looks realistic, artistic, and most importantly unique. To do that we have to figure out what makes a good bunny makeup and what we should think about including in our own.

Key Features

An authentic looking rabbit makeup includes these key features:

Distinct mouth – The mouth stands out in a rabbit makeup and should include changes to both your nose and mouth.

Fur – Crepe hair or fake fur can be cut and glued into places on the face, which will really enhance the look of your makeup.

You can also use specialized paint techniques to have the look of real fur.

Teeth – Adding the distinctive buckteeth of a bunny rabbit is a must for a genuine bunny makeup look.

Varied colors

You may immediately think of using pink for a bunny, but if you think about it, rabbits come in various earthy shades.

Bunnies are brown, white, black, grey, and you can play with these colors and create something really unique.

Digging in Pinterest always brings on the inspiration. These are some of my favorite bunny rabbit makeup looks to pull inspiration from.

Working With Fur

We want to add realness to our bunny makeup, and fake fur is a good way to do just that. Let’s discuss the type of fur you can use inside your bunny makeup look.

Faux fur fabric

This fabric can be purchased in small squares from a fabric store. Small bunches of fur can be cut from the weft and glued to your skin using an adhesive like spirit gum.

What’s nice about this fur is it holds its shape really well, and when used the right way, it can be an inexpensive way to make your makeup stand out.

Crepe hair

You use crepe hair in a similar way by cutting small amounts and gluing them in sections to your skin with an adhesive.

Practice is going to be your friend when using fur or crepe hair in a makeup, but the tutorials below will give you a good head start.

Tutorials

For this look I went to one of my favorite makeup artists, Katie Elizabeth Butt. She has a short bunny tutorial that is an awesome example of using fur in a makeup.

The second tutorial of hers is of a werewolf. It goes into greater detail on how to cut and glue fake fur, but it also shows how to achieve realistic painted fur.
